This Fall Our Toronto Dance School has been injected with the exciting energy of All Round Dance Teacher Carlee Bannon!

Dancing has been the largest influence in CARLEE BANNON'S life from the time she could walk. Carlee grew up training at Just 4 Kicks Academy of Dance in Gravenhurst ON. A small (about 400 students) but elite competitive studio under the instruction of Wendy Laidlaw. Her training included Acro, Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Lyrical, HipHop, Contemporary and Modern Dance. On a Post Secondary she graduated from a one year Dance Performance Prep program at George Brown College last year and is returning to George Brown in January for a Commercial Dance program.

Teaching Jr. Hip Hop at Doreen Hayes Studio

As a dancer Carlee loves to perform but teaching is her passion. She began her training as a teachers assistant at a very young age and has had many years of experience working in a studio. She has completed 2 out of 3 levels of A.D.A.P.T the Canadian Dance Syllabus for Dance Instructors and is currently completely the third level. Along with her Dance knowledge and skills Carly she will now have the credentials to put students through exams.

We are very pleased to announce that as of September we have a new Hip Hop & Acro teacher! Dani was so busy with her other activities she had to let go of her teaching position with us. Carlee Bannon was recommended and comes to us with wonderful credentials and experience. Her Bio and photo will be posted soon so check back!

Dancing for Cancer Cure

On July 22nd The Doreen Hayes dancers will be performing at Toronto's Meridian Ballroom for Shoppers Drug Mart's "The Weekend to End Women's Cancers" benefiting The Campbell Family Institute at The Princess Margaret Hospital. The $100 a plate dinner is sold out!

In these challenging times it is a testament to the tenacity and good business sense of 79 year old MISS DOREEN HAYES that the Doreen Hayes School of Dancing in Toronto, Ontario, is celebrating its 55th Annual Dance Recital. Many schools are struggling to stay open but Miss Hayes' old fashioned business model has sustained this school for over 5 decades. According to the research of Canada's Premiere Ballet Dancer FRANK AUGUSTYN our school is the Longest Running Privately Owned Dance School in Canada! As her daughter I have been there most of the time. Here's a photo of my sister and I with Mom rehearsing on the old Eaton's Auditorium Stage (remember the green room?) around 1963.

55 years ago Doreen started her school in the dining room of her house on Pauline Ave, Toronto until the city asked her to shut it down. With a large crowd of parents and neighbors behind her Doreen went to court and won her case. The Judge saying she was providing a safe place for the children in the neighborhood to go after school. Eventually, with a small loan from the TD bank across the street, she rented 2 rooms in the basement at 2453A Bloor St W. Toronto. A few years later she took over the basement and is still there today, conveniently located across from the Jane Subway Station. So come join us on:

Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts 36 Greenfield Ave. Toronto at the Yonge & Sheppard Subway Station. No charge to come watch and cheer them on.

On Saturdeay July 17th, The Doreen Hayes School of Dancing had a mini performance for the Bloor West Village Street Festival! We did a couple numbers from our last Recital and all of the students (and teachers, lol) did an amazing job!
